Duxford. As you are going to be doing a lot of walking n the base, I'd say the best is fast train to Cambridge and shuttle bus from there to Duxford. The Whittlesford option is a good second, although I've never tried a comparative timing!

How to from DX: http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/server/show/nav.619

Glad if it's of help. It does make for a bit of a long day though, start early.

Interesting: do you have enough English fans to deliver a knockout blow? Or can Brett take it?

Last time I went, I took the slow train to Whittlesford Parkway (start at Liverpool St or Tottenham Hale) and walked it. You can trudge along the A505, which is grim, or take a detour and turn it into a pretty pleasant 3/4hr stroll.

(Although unfortunately there's a bit of a frustrating detour and still half an airbase-length of horrible A505 at the end. Even then it takes slightly less time than the bus from Cambridge, and at least you're in the fresh air. Also, on the detour, you get to see the various fates of parts of the station - like the mess - that aren't in the museum)

Let me know if

I think I'll be okay if I pace myself :)

No car. I think I heard something about taking a train to somewhere closer than Cambridge, and a shuttle bus from there?

I'd like to add my name to the list of those clamouring to buy you beer. At this rate, you may not be allowed to remain sober enough to look at aeroplanes, although Duxford is wonderful and well worth it.

(Will you have a car here? It's a bit of a pain to get to from London without, although I do have an alternative route which I find nicer than the slow bus from Cambridge, let me know if this is relevant to you)

It seems there will be beer! Quite possibly at an airminded pub meetup.

Simon, yes, I did Hendon last time. But not Duxford, so that will almost certainly be on the itinerary.

I firmly second proposals for Beer.

Any plans for visiting particular sites of interest (Hendon, Duxford etc?), or have you done them all already?
