		<description>Yes, he wrote fairly regularly for the &lt;em&gt;Manchester Guardian&lt;/em&gt; too, at least between 1938 and 1940. But what&#039;s his background? I&#039;m guessing ex-RFC, because of the &#039;Major&#039;, though it doesn&#039;t preclude him from having continued in the RAF as well.</description>

R. is the militay correspondent for _Flight_, which normally takes a very skeptical view of things like gas bombs and knockout blows. _The Aeroplane&#039;s_ editorial position is more radical, but its military correspondent (C. M. McAleery) less so. I&#039;ve never seen R.&#039;s journalism elsewhere, but then I haven&#039;t been looking that hard.</description>
